It’s always the middle of January and into February that I start to wish I’d planned a winter break. It’s been a few years since I’ve been on one and boy am I kicking myself now. But why take a winter sunshine break?

Chances are you’re probably not feeling that flush so soon after Christmas, so why try splash out on a winter break? Well, I’m here to tell you exactly why winter sunshine breaks are so fantastic and why you should probably start saving now so you can book one for next year!

Sunshine makes you happy and healthy

If you haven’t already heard of the links between happiness and sunshine, pay attention now. Sunlight boosts seratonin levels, making everyone happier. And who doesn’t want to feel happy at this time of year (or any time of year!)? There’s definitely a reason why people living in sunny places always seem happier and more relaxed!

All of us have enjoyed the feeling of the sun hitting our faces and warming our skin. It’s impossible to ignore and impossible to deny the burst of happiness that comes with it.

In the winter in The UK the sun doesn’t contain enough UVB rays to provide us with vitamin D. That means if you’re not eating a diet rich in vitamin D, chances are you aren’t getting enough. Vitamin D is a really important thing for the body and not getting enough isn’t good.

It shakes up your routine

A great thing about taking a break at this dark and dreary time of year is that it gets you out of your routine. This is the time of year that life can seem a little dull, as winter seems to drag on and it’s still dark when you wake up in the morning. When you’re feeling a little blah, there’s nothing better than a shake up.

Taking a holiday at this time of year means you can forget the realities of the everyday. You can stop thinking about your work deadline or how much you don’t like your boss. You don’t need to worry about getting the house cleaned and the ironing done. Instead you can focus on more important things like making sure you’ve got enough sun lotion on and what cocktail you’re going to order next. Hashtag priorities.

It’s something to look forward to

You know when it’s like the 4th of January, you’re back at work and feeling crap after all the fun and excess of Christmas? Well, having a winter sunshine break booked in for a few weeks later will give you something to look forward to.

It’s so easy to feel a bit disheartened after all of the excitement of the festive period. It’ll give you something to plan for and get excited about when the nights are dark, cold and boring. What could be better than that?

Do you have any other reasons why winter sunshine breaks are the best?
