If you’ve seen the film, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel then you’ll know the concept of this TV programme. A group of elderly celebrities from The UK head to India and spend several weeks there exploring the culture, travelling and meeting new people. They’re there with the idea of seeing whether India is really a place where they could retire to and it’s great to see India through their eyes.

New York

travel related tv programmes

I haven’t just listed one programme here, because there are literally dozens of tv programmes that feature this gorgeous city.

Sex and The City, Friends, Power, Blindspot and so many more. The list goes on and on.

There’s a reason so many TV shows are set in New York. It’s an enchanting and beguiling city that attracts visitors from around the world for good reason.

Every time I watch a show set in New York it makes me wonder why I haven’t visited the city yet and puts it straight back on top of my list of places to visit soon.

Francesco’s Italy and Francesco’s Venice

travel related tv programmes

Francesco da Mosto was born into a Venetian aristocratic family and is the host of several programmes about Venice and Italy.

His passion for Italy and especially Venice really come through in his programmes as he talks about the ancient history of Venice and some of the other famous places in the country.

It’s fascinating to learn things about the historical origins of some of Italy’s most charming places.

I highly recommend tuning into one of Francesco’s programmes before visiting Italy. You’ll be hooked!

Spectacular Spain with Alex Polizzi

travel related tv programmes

You might know Alex Polizzi from The Hotel Inspector, but I had no idea who she was before tuning into her great series on Spain. She travels across Spain exploring some of the most magical places in the country.

She uncovers the charm of the ‘other side’ of Benidorm, visits Valencia, Madrid, Marbella, Andalucia and more, showing some of the very best that Spain has to offer.

Joanna Lumley’s Silk Road Adventure

travel related tv programmes

I’ve never really been a big fan of Joanna Lumley in comedic programmes, but I really liked her in this travel programme as she journeyed 7000 miles along the famous Silk Road from Europe to Asia.

Along the route, she takes in Venice, Tbilisi, a famous wine region in Georgia, Cappadocia and many more incredible places. It’s a seriously interesting look at the history of silk and how it led to the development and expansion of many of the places along the route.
