Where I’ve been

Would you believe for the entire month of June I haven’t been out of Scotland?

I have done some travel within Scotland though and I’ve loved it. I’ve always kind of wondered why people are so keen to go abroad during summer as that’s when Scotland gets its best weather? Why would you want to leave when the days are at their longest and the weather is at its very best?! I tend to travel abroad more at other times of the year and stay at home in Scotland during summer so I can enjoy those warm days filled with BBQ’s, long walks and al-fresco drinks and dining.

I took a road trip to Portavadie, near Tighnabruaich, on the banks of Loch Fyne at the beginning of June and it was glorious. The weather was kind to us for the majority of the trip and I got to enjoy some of the jaw-dropping Scottish scenery that I so adore.
The middle of the month brought more work and less socialising, although I did manage to fit in a few boozy BBQ’s and some rather glorious time working in my sunny back garden. Despite what it might look like a lot of work goes into this blog, my other blog, writing for clients, managing my own social media and the accounts I manage for clients, keeping on top of the admin and responding to the seemingly never-ending stream of emails. It’s always much more pleasant to be able to tend to all these duties whilst sitting in the sunshine enjoying the fresh air!

The end of June saw me completely redecorating my bedroom and little home office. I’m still putting the finishing touches to it and maybe I’ll share a few photos in next months travel blogging round up!

What I’ve been reading

I’ve been reading some pretty good crime novels this month by Wonny Lea. I quite enjoy a good detective story as they always intrigue me and make me want to keep reading to find out more. The Wonny Lea books are centered around a detective named —— and the cases he works on in the south of England. They’re super cheap to buy on kindle and are nice easy reads at the end of a long day.

I’ve also really found myself getting into Bloglovin’ this month and have discovered so many fun, new blogs on there. I’ve literally lost hours of my time reading through pretty home DIY decor blogs, food blogs and beauty blogs. There’s some really great bloggers out there who’re doing some exciting and interesting things. Get over there and check out the ‘top blogs’ section if you’re looking for some new reads and don’t forget to follow me on Bloglovin to keep up to date with all my latest posts!

Here’s some articles from around the internet that I’ve especially enjoyed this month:

Vietnamese Baby is an article about blinding love and the writing in this piece by Brenna of This Battered Suitcase is really gripping and powerful.

Busyness is a status symbol that makes us feel important and assures us that we matter in this world because we must do so many things. However, busyness doesn’t mean you are productive – rather, busyness is a sign of inefficiency and often detracts from your quality of life. Busyness is avoidable” wise words in this article.

The Pros and Cons of a Digital Office had me nodding along in agreement as I agreed with most of these reasons why being able to work from anywhere can be both a good thing and a bad thing.

What I’ve been watching

I’m a massive football fan so I’ve been avidly watching the majority of the World Cup games. Who’s your money on to win it?

I also love tennis and Wimbledon is absolutely my favourite tournament of the year. I’m cheering on Andy Murray and he’s certainly playing very well so far and looking strong and confident. How wonderful would it be for him to win two years running? Fingers crossed!

New posts for June

June marked the anniversary of two years of being a full time travel blogger and writer. Yay! I can’t believe it has already been two years since I graduated from university and started full time blogging and freelancing. It’s been quite the journey and I’m still so happy I’m following my dreams.

In this piece Travel Makes Me Happy I write about making the decision to be happy and travel being a massive part of that. Happiness is one of the most important parts of life I think!

I wrote all about my favourite and least favourite things about travel. What are yours?

It’s no secret that I’m head over heels in love with my wonderful country, Scotland. I recently wrote about why you should visit Scotland in summer and shared pictures from my summer road trip.

I shared my top things to do in Barcelona after what must have been my tenth visit to the city in May.

Where I’m going in July

I’m excited to be going to explore The Lake District this month. It’s an area that’s only around 3 hours drive from my home in Scotland and yet I’ve only briefly passed through the area before. Shameful. The Lake District is the largest national park in England and I can’t wait to check out it’s natural beauty for myself. I’m hoping for good weather so we can take plenty of long walks, pretty pictures and there’ll be plenty of rest stops to check out the best food and drink in the area too!

I’ll be checking out two different properties during my time in the Lake District and both Ravenstone Lodge and The Lake House look like adorable places to stay during a trip to this area. If you have any suggestions of fun things I should do or see in The Lake District then please get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!

I’ve also been invited to stay at citizenM, a relatively new hotel in Glasgow that promises ‘affordable luxury. The hotels are design-led and have some pretty cool features such as mood lighting you can control via your in-room MoodPad – rest assured I’ll be checking that out first! I’m looking forward to having a little ‘staycation’ in my beloved Glasgow and want to use this as an opportunity to visit some of Glasgow’s best museums and art galleries that I don’t usually have to time to explore.

I’m also planning a trip to Edinburgh at some point during the month and I’m looking forward to getting back to Scotland’s beautiful capital city.

So, that’s been June! I can barely believe it’s July already but I’m loving this summery weather and really hoping it continues. Have a great month everyone!
