Looking for somewhere for a fantastic Scottish weekend getaway? Here are five options that I think are perfect…
Scotland’s capital city is the ideal place for a weekend getaway. There’s history, stunning architecture, great restaurants and so much to do and see. Edinburgh also has some fantastic hotels, with everything from boutique luxury properties to budget-friendly options. It’s the perfect place to escape your everyday life for a weekend of fun in a truly gorgeous city.
2. St. Andrews
St. Andrews is one of my absolute favourite places to head in Scotland for a weekend away. This seaside town is wonderfully picturesque, with two gorgeous beaches and a stunning stretch of coastline.
The perfect day in St. Andrews would involve a leisurely walk along the beach, a long, lazy brunch, a wander through the castle ruins and cathedral ruins, topped off with a delicious dinner and drinks in one of the many great restaurants in this small city.
Glasgow is so often overlooked in favour of it’s more attractive neighbour, Edinburgh. This always pains me so much, as Glasgow has a lot to offer visitors. It might not be as breathtakingly beautiful as Edinburgh, but it is still blessed with some delightful architecture. The city also has some of the best museums in Scotland, with Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum being my absolute favourite (and it’s completely free to enter!).
My favourite part of the city has always been the trendy west end. It’s fun, vibrant, exciting and has some brilliant nightlife and boutique shops. Don’t miss this part of Glasgow during a visit.
If you’re looking for a place to get away from it all, it doesn’t get any better than the isle of Skye off Scotland’s rugged west coast. The island has wild, natural landscapes that will take your breath away and that are perfect for exploring on foot. There are also beautiful fishing villages, medieval castle ruins, waterfalls, and so much more.
5. Loch Lomond
Less than an hours drive from Glasgow are the gorgeous banks of Loch Lomond. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park was designated as Scotland’s first national park and is a great place to explore the beautiful natural scenery of the country. There are so many great walks around the loch and different little towns and villages dotted all the way along the banks. It really is an ideal place to relax in the perfectly serene environment.
