Everyone has travel dreams, places that they’d love to visit, events they’d love to take part in and spectacles they’d like to see. Obviously, I can’t share all my travel dreams with you as I’d be typing away here for days and days as my list only gets longer. Instead, I’m only sharing my ultimate travel dreams, those things I absolutely must do before I die. Call it a bucket-list if you wish – here are my top travel dreams that I’m determined to realise!
Holi Festival, India
Holi is a spring festival of colours which is celebrated by Hindus, mainly in India and Nepal. Imagine celebrating the beginning of spring by throwing colourful powders at those around you. Holi usually breaks down some of the barriers of age, gender, and social status and people make music, dance and end up covered head to toe in colour. It sounds like quite the experience!
Hot Air Ballooning in Cappadocia
This one is a little bit of a cliche isn’t it? Everyone wants to do it, but to see the unique and fascinating landscape of Cappadocia stretching out before me would be absolutely wonderful. I’d especially love to do it at sunrise to see the sun creeping over the landscape inch by inch.
Barcelona v Real Madrid
I’m a huge football (soccer) fan, and I absolutely worship Barcelona FC. Within the next couple of years, whilst the best players in the world – Messi, Xavi, Iniesta et al – are still together, I’m determined to go to a game at the Camp Nou. I’d settle for any game really, but the holy grail would be an el clasico, between Barcelona and their fierce rivals Real Madrid. I’ve done the stadium tour of the Camp Nou three times already but the next time I go back it will be for a game. Vamos Barça!
Drive Route 66, America
Another cliche, I know, but who doesn’t want to drive Route 66 in a classic convertible?! With the sun on your face and the wind in your hair it would be the ultimate road trip, and just imagine the epic road trip playlist you could create!
Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan
Who doesn’t want to take part in a full moon party, all night on a beach in beautiful Thailand? Music, jugglers, fire eaters, fireworks, friends and dancing. It definitely sounds like my kind of party! It’s just one of those things you’ve gotta do while you’re young, right?!
I love a bit of train travel, and the Trans-Siberian route, the longest railway in the world, fascinates me. The Trans-Siberian railway spans SEVEN time zones and more than 5,000 miles – if that’s not a train journey of epic proportions, I don’t know what is! I’d love to do it slowly, stopping off often and spending time in many places along the route.
Walk the Camino de Santiago, Spain
The Camino is the pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostella, although I wouldn’t be walking it for religious reasons. It’s a gruelling trek, but anyone I’ve known who has done it has said it’s absolutely one of the most worthwhile things they’ve done. I’m definitely up for the challenge.
Cruise the Arctic
I would absolutely love to visit the Arctic, and I’ve been told one of the best ways to do it is on a cruise. As a self-confessed cruise lover, this would be the perfect way for me to make it to the Arctic! Visiting the northernmost point of the earth would be a great experience, and imagine how cool it would be to see polar bears and other wonderful wildlife in their natural habitat.
Visit the Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands, made famous by Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution by natural selection, are covered in the most incredible flora and fauna and I would absolutely be in my element there. The islands are one of the most untouched and undeveloped areas in the world and I think it would be the trip of a lifetime.
What are your ultimate travel dreams?
