If you’ve been a regular reader here over the past few years, you’ll know I’m a big fan of reading. I read a heck of a lot and each year I set myself a reading challenge.

For a few years, it was to read 52 books per year – 1 for each week.

Then, in 2018, I challenged myself to up it from 52 to 60.

Well, as I’m typing this post I’ve already surpassed 60 books for 2018!

I’m currently reading my 62nd book of 2018 and I plan to make it to 65 by the end of the year. I had initial thoughts of making it to 70, but that hasn’t quite panned out due to being very busy with work, getting engaged and loads of festive fun things going on.

I absolutely adore reading and love nothing more than curling up on the couch or in bed with a great read. For me, reading is a glorious escape and it relaxes me at the end of a day and chills me out in a way few other things can do.
2019 reading challenge

I love putting my phone on silent and getting lost in a really great book. Reading focuses me to be present and have all my attention on the world that the characters are living in. There’s no time for multi-tasking, thinking about my seemingly never-ending to-do list or what I’m going to cook for dinner tomorrow night. It’s just me, my book and the world within it. Bliss.

So, I figured since I’ve achieved (and surpassed) 60 so easily this year, next year I should aim for 70 books. I’m determined to hit my target next year, so am already downloading some fantastic books onto my Kindle to get me off to a flying start.

I also want to read some books that are a little more out of my reading comfort zone. I currently ready mostly psychological thrillers, thrillers, police procedurals and detective novels. I’d like to try and shake that up a bit in the new year, as I find whenever I do dip into other genres, I mostly always enjoy it.

So, stay tuned, because at the end of the year I’ll be sharing all of the books I read during 2018 and my favourites.

If you have any great book recommendations that you think I’d love, please let me know in the comments below!
