I’m off to Iceland and Where I’ll be Spending My Birthday

Today I’m fulfilling one of my travel dreams (of which there are many!) and getting on a plane to ICELAND!

Iceland has always been a place that has intrigued me and in recent years this tiny little nation has become a super popular tourist destination and I can definitely see why.

Who wouldn’t want to go to Iceland with views like this?!

Reading other lovely travel bloggers posts like this and this and seeing beautiful photos of Iceland’s jaw-dropping raw beauty splattered all over Twitter, Facebook and Instagram has only heightened my need to just get there already so I’m about ready to burst just thinking about it!

My wonderful mum is celebrating a pretty special birthday (don’t worry mum, I won’t tell which one!) this year and we decided as a family to take her to Iceland as, like me, she’s always wanted to go.

We had originally planned to keep it a secret but we all got too excited and caved about 3 months ago. That’s how excited we are for Iceland!

So we’re packed and ready for 4 days based in the pretty capital of Reykjavic where we’ll be mostly venturing out of the city in search of adventure. We’ll be chasing waterfalls, geysirs, geothermal activity and more on the popular ‘Golden Circle‘ route; donning tonnes of layers and crossing our fingers that we get to see the Northern Lights and taking a well earned dip in the Blue Lagoon at the end of it all.

I’m also just really looking forward to spending some quality time with my family too. My mum and I travelled around India for a couple of weeks last year and we had an amazing time, I’ve travelled in Australia with my brother and Paris with my dad so I know they’re all good travel companions!

From Iceland I’m heading straight to one of my favourite adorable seaside towns in Scotland, North Berwick, for a blissful long weekend in a cottage with some of my friends and favourite people in the world to celebrate my 24th birthday.

Fingers crossed the weather is like this for the weekend!!

We’ve got a big cottage with four bedrooms and our garden gate opens right onto the beach. We’re also having my birthday dinner at one of my favourite restaurants in the world and I could not be more excited. If that’s not the recipe for a perfect weekend then I don’t know what is!

This is going to be our view out to sea!

I think the perfect early birthday present would be getting to see the Northern Lights during my time in Iceland so I have my fingers and toes crossed for that. Wish me luck guys!

To follow my trip in real time (and find out first if I do get to see those pesky Northern Lights!) then you might want to follow me on Twitter and Instagram. I’d love to see you on there.

Have you ever been to Iceland? Do you have any tips for us?

Great minds, eh! Thanks :) I’m sure I’ll be posting loads about Iceland :D

I just got back from 4 days in Iceland on Wednesday! It was absolutely amazing, though unfortunately we had snow and rain most of the trip so we never got to see the northern lights. I hope you guys get to see them! I’m just posting about my trip on my blog including the golden circle and the blue lagoon (which were both amazing!). If you get a chance, eat at Geysir Bistro in the main plaza at reykjavik – it was the best food (and cheapest) we had all holiday! The fish is the best I’ve ever tasted!
I’m so excited for you guys! I cant wait to hear about it when you get back! :)

Glad you had an amazing time in Iceland too, April. Sadly we didn’t get to see the Northern Lights either :( (although I guess it’s a good excuse to go back, right?!)

I was in Iceland last month and it was fantastic. I didn’t see the Northern Lights but it didn’t matter because the trip was epic anyway! Have a fab birthday :)

I didn’t get to see them either in the end but just like you I had a fab time anyways. Thanks for the kind birthday wishes too!
