If you’re looking for somewhere to visit to take advantage of the stunning views along the French Riviera then I have the perfect suggestion. The gorgeous hilltop village of Èze offers amazing views out over the stunning Côte d’Azur and it just happens to be incredibly pretty too.

Èze sits proudly at the top of a hill, looking down on all around it from almost 3,000 feet up. It’s a small town with ancient roots, with the oldest building in the village dating all the way back to 1306.

The views out over the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea are nothing short of stunning and are so worth the short climb to the highest point of the town from where road access finishes. It isn’t far and isn’t too steep, so is accessible for most. The cobbles can be a little slippery though, so be sure to wear your sturdiest shoes.

A visit to Èze wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the exotic gardens that stand right at the top of the hill. Entry is currently 6 euros per person and is worth it just for the panoramic views if nothing else, although the selection of plants, succulents and statues on display is rather impressive.

Very few people actually live in Èze, meaning it has something of a toy town feel but that doesn’t mean it’s offputting. Instead, it almost feels like something from a fairytale as you wander through the uneven streets and into the tiny art galleries and trinket shops. Many of the stone buildings are covered in bright bougainvillea, making it even more picturesque.

It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours wandering, meandering and soaking in all of the beautiful views.

Things to note

As well as the hilltop town of Èze, there’s also a seaside part to the town, Èze Sur Mer. It’s handy to note this if you’re driving there and your sat nav ends up pointing you to the wrong town!

At the moment, the car park where the road stops in Èze is closed as construction has begun on a 3 storey underground car park with many more spaces. The alternative car park is about 5 minutes drive away. Parking here is 6 euros and a shuttle bus included in the price takes you to the starting point of the walk up. Show your car parking ticket at the Exotic Gardens to receive free entry.
