When I heard about a ‘winter light festival’ taking place in a massive public park in Glasgow I knew I had to check it out. I marvelled over the pictures on the website and booked my tickets up, surprised to find out how quickly they were disappearing.
The evening finally came and I got all wrapped up warm, donned my waterproofs (there’s always a chance of rain in Scotland!) and drove to Rouken Glen park to start our adventure.
Electric Glen is basically a walk through the park under the cover of darkness where you can enjoy the magical colours of the light installations that have been placed along the route.
It takes place over two weekends in February each year and is super popular with both kids and adults alike. I visited on Valentines weekend and I’m pretty sure there were more loved up couples there than there were children!
There were stretches of water lit up beautifully with the colours changing and moving through the spectrum before our eyes.
There are carpets of light covering some of the paths on the route and I absolutely adored them. Can I get this in my house please?!
There were Chinese style lanterns dangling above other paths and different music playing at certain points along the way.
One of the main attractions was the park’s MASSIVE waterfall all lit up as it cascaded noisily down the rocks.
It was mesmorising and I struggled to tear myself away from listening to the water rush downhill
Another of the main attractions was the trees in the middle of the boating pond being lit up in different colours, almost like a tie-dye and the colours moved through the trees, as if like liquid.
Then suddenly the smell of chocolate hit my nostrils. Where was it coming from?
Aha! A van that looked a little like it used to be an ice cream van had been turned into chocolate heaven. There was a giant chocolate fountain there with my name on it!
‘A SHOT of chocolate?! I want that!’
Forget tequila, sambuca or Jägermeister, chocolate is definitely the shot for me!
It was the perfect ending to an enchanting evening wandering through the trees in Rouken Glen park.
Electric Glen, I’ll definitely be back next year. Save me some chocolate!
