I’ve written a lot about how much I love Portugal here on the blog. Lisbon is a beautiful city and The Algarve is a region I adore. I’ve been lucky enough to visit The Algarve many, many times and my most recent trip there was my second this year. Myself, Thomas, my parents, my brother Iain and his girlfriend Michelle headed off to Portugal for a long weekend in the sunshine.

Myself, Thomas, my parents, my brother Iain and his girlfriend Michelle headed off to Portugal for a long weekend in the sunshine. There was more to it than simply heading off on a short break though. My family have been going to a specific restaurant for around 15 years – 11 of those with the current owners. When we heard they were selling up we knew we had to go back one more time. Even if it meant booking a trip to Portugal just to do it! I know, it sounds ridiculous travelling to another country just to eat at a restaurant, but this place is totally worth it.

The owners, Ana and Peter are a wonderful couple who run the most fantastic restaurant with just 30 covers. Ana is a gracious front of house hostess and her husband Peter is an incredible chef. Over the years we’ve gotten to know them both well and the trip was as much for them as to eat in their restaurant.

Our destination was Albufeira, around 40 minutes west of Faro Airport. We booked into the Rocamar Exclusive Hotel and Spa and stumped up extra for sea view rooms. Worth. Every. Penny.

The balcony view was simply stunning and I used every opportunity to make sit out there and admire the views. Sunset views, sunrise views, any time of day views.

When we booked our trip to Portugal back in January we didn’t really expect much from the weather. Sure, we expected it to be warmer and drier than back home in Scotland but pretty much everywhere is!

We certainly didn’t expect temperatures of between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius during the day and brilliant blue skies! But that’s exactly what greeted us. We made the absolute most of the sunshine eating outside, walking along the beach, finding some of the best views of the coast, exploring different towns, playing golf (well, the boys played golf and I drove the buggy!), eating, drinking and relaxing.

And, of course, one of the main highlights was eating at Ana and Peter’s restaurant, Dom Carlos, twice during our trip. The food was sensational, the atmosphere was fantastic and it was lovely to eat there for the last time before they move onto their new venture and someone else takes over.

It was pretty much an idyllic long weekend away. The sun shone, the company was fantastic and we laughed loads. The perfect way to recharge my batteries before returning home to work on my business and  settle in for the Scottish winter!
