Cruise holidays are no longer the preserve of middle aged, middle class couples looking to relax with people their own age. Nowadays cruises are increasingly attracting a younger and more adventurous traveller. Cruises are perfect for twenty somethings like myself and here’s just a few reasons why…

The opportunity to meet like minded people

When you’re on a cruise, almost everyone is super friendly and you can easily make new friends to enjoy a shore excursion with, have dinner with in the evening, or even to head to the nightclub on board and throw some shapes on the dance floor after a few cocktails. Generally most people on board are talkative and approachable because you’re all in the same boat, quite literally in this case!

There’s cool bars and nightclubs on board

Depending on the size of ship you chose to cruise on, you’ll find there’s normally a few different bars and a nightclub on board (the bigger the ship the more drinking holes). If there’s a few different bars you can even do a mini bar crawl on board! Some of the nightclubs I’ve been in on cruise ships have been amazing – one even had a spinning bar (Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas)! Totally disorientating after a few drinks though…

On board activities

Now, you might be thinking cruise ship on board activities include things like playing bridge or chess, or something equally exciting with people old enough to be your grandparents. That’s where you’re wrong. There are fully equipped gyms on board most cruise ships where they have aerobic classes, yoga and Zumba. There are rock climbing walls and sports courts on many large modern liners. I’ve enjoyed a few games of 9 hole mini golf and played on some of the best golf courses in the world via golf simulators whilst sailing from one port of call to another. There are casinos on most ships where you can gamble to your hearts content. Every ship I’ve been on has had multiple swimming pools and a few bubbly jaccuzi’s for ultimate blissful relaxation. There are cocktail making classes, live music, parties, pool side games and so much more. You’re not going to find your grandparents taking part in too many of those activities now, are you?!

The food is AMAZING

I know this is an attractive feature of cruising no matter what age you are, but it’s too good for me to ignore. I’ve had some of the best meals of my life on cruise ships. Michelin Starred chef Atul Kochhar’s restaurant Sindhu on board P&O’s Azura was some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. The Pinnacle Grill on Holland America’s elegant Ryndam was another of my favourite meals ever. We ate on Bvlgari china…so stylish!

With all this fun stuff to do, and so much more, it’s no wonder I love cruise holidays so much!
