About Emma Gray

I’m Emma. I’m 25 years old and I was born and raised in a village just outside Glasgow in beautiful Scotland. Ever since I was just 6 months old, when my fabulous parents took me on my first flight, I’ve been filled with a deep and inescapable sense of wanderlust. Travelling is my passion. I love nothing more than packing a suitcase and travelling somewhere new and exciting whether it’s alone, with friends or with family. In early 2012, towards the end of studying for my English Literature degree at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, I couldn’t shake the feeling that working 9 to 5 in an office cubicle after graduation wasn’t going to be for me. So, I started Emma’s Travel Tales and begun my quest for a location independent lifestyle. What’s location independence I hear you ask? Well, it’s the ability to work from anywhere in the world as long as you have internet access. I can pack my bags tomorrow and fly to anywhere in the world and work from there using only my laptop and some other nifty little gadgets. Basically, I challenged myself to live life differently to what was expected of me. So far I have travelled to 36 different countries and have no intention of stopping anytime soon! When I’m not travelling abroad I love to explore everything that Scotland has to offer. Sometimes you don’t have to go too far to have an amazing experience and the best places are often on our own doorstep.

By |January 15th, 2018|Life|4 Comments

I don’t know about you guys but I’m still riding the wave of freshness that comes with a shiny new year. I’m feeling productive, positive and ready to plan lots of things for the year ahead.

Planning for 2018 includes setting work goals, personal goals and, of course, travel goals. And, let’s be honest, travel goals are definitely the most fun […]

Why January is The Best Time to Book Travel

By |January 11th, 2018|Life, Travel Tips|1 Comment

January. Oh, January.

For many people, January is the worst month of the year. Christmas – and all the fun that goes with it – is well and truly over and you crash back to reality with a bang. Back to work, back to routine and back to the monotony of everyday life. It’s cold outside, it’s oppressively dark and your […]

52 Books Challenge: My 2017 Reads

By |January 8th, 2018|Life|0 Comments

For the past 4-5 years I’ve committed to reading 52 books per year, one for each week. 2017 was no different and I completed the challenge on the last day of the year.

Reading has always been something I’ve loved and I genuinely enjoy spending time getting lost in words and stories. Here are all the books I read in 2017…

Monthly Round-Up: December Edition

By |January 4th, 2018|Life|0 Comments

Happy New Year! I know it’s such a cliche but I can’t quite believe it’s 2018 already. 2017 seemed to pass by in a bit of a blur and here we are already into a brand new year.

This is my first post here since before Christmas and I have to admit it’s been great to have a break from posting. […]

My Best Moments of 2017

By |December 18th, 2017|Life|0 Comments

Sorry to be quite so cliche, but I can’t believe 2017 is almost over. It feels like only a couple of months ago we were toasting to 2017 surrounded by family and friends at our Hogmanay party.

I love looking back at the end of the year and remembering everything that’s happened throughout the year. Looking back on 2017 it’s been […]

Experiencing Burnout

By |December 14th, 2017|Life|0 Comments

Last week I was ill. So ill I didn’t get dressed for 2 days and didn’t leave my house for 5 days. This is so unlike me. In fact, I actually can’t remember when I was last ill enough to even stay in my pj’s for an entire day. It must have been many, many years.

What started off as a […]

Why We Celebrated Christmas On 3rd December

By |December 11th, 2017|Life|0 Comments

If you follow me on Twitter (come say hi here!) you may have noticed I posted that we were celebrating ‘Fake Christmas’ last Sunday. We had a whole host of Christmas Day activities planned and hosted my parents, Thomas’ parents, my brother and his girlfriend for Christmas Dinner. (Thomas has 4 siblings who had partners and children and unfortunately, our house […]

Why I’ll Never Tire of Italy

By |December 4th, 2017|Destinations, Italy|1 Comment

I’ve written before about Portugal being one of my favourite countries. Italy is undoubtedly another. Italy is a destination I have a lot of love for and have so many fantastic memories of. It’s a place I never tire of returning to and I still have plenty Italian destinations on my must-visit list.

I can’t actually recall how many times I’ve […]

November Round-Up

By |November 30th, 2017|Life|0 Comments

What’s been happening in November?
November has been a busy, but fantastic month.

I’ve been to a fantastic dinner party with friends, saw Rag’n’Bone Man live in Glasgow, attended the Andy Murray charity night in Glasgow and saw Andy and Roger Federer play tennis, went to a family party, learned how to make fresh pasta from scratch and more.

Seeing Rag’n’Bone Man live […]
