About Emma Gray

I’m Emma. I’m 25 years old and I was born and raised in a village just outside Glasgow in beautiful Scotland. Ever since I was just 6 months old, when my fabulous parents took me on my first flight, I’ve been filled with a deep and inescapable sense of wanderlust. Travelling is my passion. I love nothing more than packing a suitcase and travelling somewhere new and exciting whether it’s alone, with friends or with family. In early 2012, towards the end of studying for my English Literature degree at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, I couldn’t shake the feeling that working 9 to 5 in an office cubicle after graduation wasn’t going to be for me. So, I started Emma’s Travel Tales and begun my quest for a location independent lifestyle. What’s location independence I hear you ask? Well, it’s the ability to work from anywhere in the world as long as you have internet access. I can pack my bags tomorrow and fly to anywhere in the world and work from there using only my laptop and some other nifty little gadgets. Basically, I challenged myself to live life differently to what was expected of me. So far I have travelled to 36 different countries and have no intention of stopping anytime soon! When I’m not travelling abroad I love to explore everything that Scotland has to offer. Sometimes you don’t have to go too far to have an amazing experience and the best places are often on our own doorstep.

Out of Office!

By |October 12th, 2017|Life|0 Comments

This is a pretty exciting week for me – tomorrow my out of office is going on for the next 10 days! As a freelancer I don’t take holidays all that often. Sure I take a day or two off here and there, but I only take a longer break a couple of times a year. This means that a […]

The Things I Love to do When I’m Not Travelling

By |October 9th, 2017|Life|0 Comments

I wrote recently about how my travel style has changed and evolved over the last few years. I don’t take as many trips each year as I used to, but that’s something I’m okay with. This is mostly because I love my life at home, and have lots of things to keep me busy that I adore.
Cooking is a major […]

How My Travel Style Has Changed

By |October 5th, 2017|Life|0 Comments

Change is inevitable as we get older. As we grow, evolve and adapt so do many things about our personalities and tastes. I’ve recently realised that as with so many things in my life, my travel style has changed as I’ve gotten older. I’m not the same girl I was 9 years ago when I was 18 anymore. While I […]

September Round-Up

By |October 2nd, 2017|Life|0 Comments

What’s been happening in September?
Autumn is here! Summer is officially over and it seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. It doesn’t seem so long ago that we were enjoying BBQs in the garden and day trips in the sunshine. Now, it’s time to enjoy the cosy nights of autumn and the gorgeous colours of nature. I’m […]

Top Places on My Travel Wishlist

By |September 28th, 2017|Life, Travel Tales|2 Comments

Some people have shopping wishlists, I have a travel wishlist. A list of places I really, really, really want to go to. The kind of places I regularly find myself looking at flight prices to and daydreaming about visiting. Some of these places have been on my wishlist for years, while others are fairly new entries. I’m always adding more […]

The Problem with Wanting to Go Everywhere

By |September 25th, 2017|Life, Travel Tales|3 Comments

195 countries, 510.1 million kilometres squared and around 6909 languages make up the world around us. Those are some pretty incredible numbers.

I’ve always been fascinated with the world. I love the sheer number of countries and the diversity among them. This is partly what translates to my love of travel. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of exploring new places, […]

Looking Back on Summer 2017

By |September 21st, 2017|Life|0 Comments

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but autumn officially begins here in the UK tomorrow (Friday 22nd). That means summer is all but over, and it definitely feels that way with the weather here in Scotland. The temperatures are creeping lower and the days are getting depressing shorter.

The good things about autumn are hauling out my cute […]

India, Almost

By |September 18th, 2017|Destinations, India, Life|0 Comments

“Let’s go for it then. Let’s just book it,” I said decisively.

I was sitting with Thomas and my parents looking at trips to India. We’d been talking about it back and forth for ages and finally agreed to go for it.

My parents had been looking at trips to India for months after my mum fell in love with India during our […]

Why I’m Unsure How I Feel About Being Able to Use Mobile Data in Europe

By |September 14th, 2017|Life, Travel Tales|1 Comment

“That’s a bit of a random title for a blog post”, I bet you’re thinking to yourself. I know, I know. I agree. It *is* a random title for a blog post, but I couldn’t think of anything more effective. I couldn’t think of a better way to title something I’m not sure exactly how I feel about. Yes, pretty […]
